BGA Ball Pattern

Post by VTiederle » 16 Sep 2014, 11:04

For definition of BGA one of the parameters is the ball pattern. The setting here are
- full - channel - island - perimeter - unknown
What is the impact of this parameter?
Especially when should be used island or channel?
Please give a hint when the ball pattern "perimeter" should be used? only a few rows of balls are present at the outside, and no balls in the middle of the component.
What happens if unknow is set?

Thank you for answering these questions.

My guess full= balls all over the area without using the pitch info
island= bolls populated from the middle using the pitch info
channel= balls in the middle and in the perimeter with a space between
perimeter=self explaining
