When Sherlock first looks at a part it guesses the material type:
Alumina for resistors
Barium Titanate BaTi for capacitors
It is critical that you review the package materials for the chip components. It can throw off the solder fatigue life calculation.

If you use the package chooser the material may get changed because packages are not tied to the part type.
The package defines the geometry.
The part type defines the material
The user can override the material of the part type (This is not typical)
